540 Technologies Debuts New TORPEE-MAG Electromagnetic Averaging Insertion Flowmeter

May 26, 2021

540 Technologies, an environmental and data solutions provider that helps utilities and companies become more efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible, is an authorized distributor of the TORPEE-MAG flowmeter from Flow-Tronic.

The TORPEE-MAG is a hot-tap, full-profile electromagnetic insertion flowmeter that measures and reports the average flow rate over the full diameter of the pipe. The sensor features multiple electrodes placed at equal intervals across its body, and the meter’s design compensates for variable flow profiles.

One of the key features of the TORPEE-MAG is that it can be installed through a hot tap, which doesn’t require shutting down the water system, then emptying and cutting the system’s pipe for installation.

The feature of not having to shut down the water system has already paid off for one of 540 Technologies’ customers. “We employed the TORPEE-MAG for a municipal water authority in Pennsylvania, and it worked as advertised and kept them from having to shut down their system, which would have been severely impactful,” said Josh Dickert, a technical sales consultant with 540 Technologies.

The TORPEE-MAG fits in confined spaces and can be removed in pipes under pressure for easy inspection, cleaning, calibrating, or verification. It is particularly cost-effective for retrofit applications. The flowmeter comes in 2 sizes, to be used with 1.5-inch or 2-inch ball valves.
